How private care works

Private patients pay per consultation. This is not a membership, and it does not change care for patients with valid Alberta Health Care coverage.

Fees vary by consultation type. Call (825) 910-6812 or email info@madoxmedical.ca before your visit to confirm your consultation fee.

Understanding coverage and service charges

A patient without coverage and a service outside coverage

An uninsured patient has no applicable public coverage for a visit and may pay directly. An uninsured service is different: it falls outside the public plan, even if that patient's other visits are covered. Certain forms or examinations may have charges. Ask the clinic which charges apply to your particular visit or service.

Coverage from another province or private insurance

Discuss your circumstances with the clinic and ask your insurer about its requirements. Do not assume that eligibility, direct billing or reimbursement applies to your visit.

What your visit may look like

  1. 01

    Clarify registration and payment

Ask the clinic about registration, your consultation fee and payment arrangements, including any charges for additional services.

  2. 02

    Share what matters to you

Tell your clinician about your main concerns, relevant health history, medicines and allergies.

  3. 03

    Discuss care and options

Talk through appropriate care with your clinician and ask questions about the options discussed.

  4. 04

    Understand what comes next

Make sure you understand the next steps and any follow-up, including how to arrange it.

Private patient questions

Who counts as a private patient?

Private patients are patients without valid Alberta Health Care coverage, including visitors, out-of-province patients, and people without Alberta insurance. Care is pay-per-consultation, not a membership. This does not change care for patients with valid Alberta Health Care coverage.

Do I need Alberta Health Care coverage to be seen?

No. Madox Medical Clinic also attends to private patients. Patients who are not insured in Alberta are welcome in our clinic and pay for their consultations.

How much will my consultation cost?

Fees vary depending on the type of consultation. Call (825) 910-6812 or email info@madoxmedical.ca before your visit to confirm the fee for your consultation type.

Can I walk in as a private patient?

Yes. You can walk in during walk-in hours. Every patient arriving during walk-in hours is seen the same day. Clinical triage applies and wait times vary. You can also call or request an appointment online. Online requests need confirmation.

What should I bring?

Bring photo ID, any available health coverage information, medicines with doses, supplements and allergies, relevant records or recent test results, your main questions and a short timeline, and any required forms. Discuss payment arrangements with the clinic before your visit.

Are uninsured patients and uninsured services the same?

No. A patient without applicable public coverage for a visit may pay directly. An uninsured service falls outside public plan coverage, even when the patient's other visits are covered. Certain forms or examinations may have charges. Ask the clinic what applies to your visit or service.

What if I have out-of-province or private insurance?

Discuss your coverage circumstances with the clinic and ask your insurer what it requires. Eligibility, direct billing and reimbursement are not guaranteed.

What if I have a medical emergency?

For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. If you are unsure where to seek care and need non-emergency health advice, call Health Link Alberta at 811.
